When it comes to tiling and flooring, getting your calculations right saves you from costly delays, material shortages, or excessive wastage. 1. Calculating Tile Quantity for Floor Area

The first step is to accurately measure the area you intend to tile. This forms the basis for all further calculations.

Understanding the Area Method

The fundamental principle is simple: divide the total floor area by the area of a single tile.

• Step 1: Calculate the Floor Area.

Measure the length and width of the room. For rectangular or square rooms, it's straightforward: Floor Area (sqm) = Room Length (m) × Room Width (m)

For irregular shapes, divide the area into smaller rectangles or squares, calculate each, and then sum them up. For example, an L-shaped room can be split into two rectangles.
